Nexus 7 won’t charge or switch on? – solved!

So since its been a while since I’ve used it and I wanted to give the new 4.2 update a try, I thought I’d crack my Nexus 7 back out.

Turns out the battery died a while ago and for the life of me I couldn’t get it to switch on or to charge, even when leaving it for a few hours at a time. Even the normal battery icon wouldn’t come up on screen when it was plugged in.

The answer is actually pretty simple, press and hold the power button until it switches on. Make sure it’s plugged into the mains before you do this but hopefully after about 20-30 seconds you should see it burst back into life.

Make sure you give it a full charge before you try to do too much else with your Nexus 7 and try to avoid letting it drain down fully again 😉

For what its worth, the latest update seems to be pretty good so far with gesture typing on the keyboard and a few other performance tweaks and improvements. I have been experiencing a bit of screen flickering but I need to spend some more time with it to make sure I’m not imagining things!

  1. Thank you!

Last night I got the warning to use the power cable and left the unit on charge over night. I woke up this morning to find my 5 month old Nexus “dead”. After 20 minutes of blind panic, including trying to contact the supplier, I read your piece and “Bingo”… a working nexus. Thanks again.

  2. Thank you same as Andy P

Problem sorted after I did the same over night charge and it wouldn’t start up next morning .

    Thank you again
